A new bill is being considered in Texas that would allow police officers to tow the cars of drivers who are not properly insured when they are stopped for a traffic violation.
Proponents of the bill have said that it is an attempt to reduce the 72,000 accidents that happen every year with uninsured drivers. A lack of insurance can cause serious problems for those injured in an accident, as they will not have insurance to help with medical costs. Opponents of the bill believe that it is too harsh. Some have said that a simple case of forgetting the right insurance documentation could lead to a vehicle being impounded and hundreds of dollars in impound fees.
So far, no bill of this nature has been proposed or passed in Indiana.
