Coverage against car-deer collisions
Posted on October 11th, 2011
Chances are, if you live in the north and northeast, you or someone you know has hit a deer and suffered major damage to their car. The fall season is when most deer accidents occur, as this is when deer begin to mate and migrate.
So how do you know if you’re protected by your insurance if you hit a deer? A comprehensive car insurance policy will cover the expenses for repair costs in an animal-related accident.
If you’re renting a car and plan on driving through an area heavily populated with deer, your comprehensive policy will cover the rental car. If you don’t have the policy and are renting, opting for the loss damage waiver, which usually costs $9-$19 a day, will prevent you from having to fork over the money if you hit an animal.

Three things not to lie about on auto insurance
Posted on September 12th, 2011
It’s easy to be tempted to downplay some things about your driving habits when filling out your car insurance application, especially since where you park and who drives your car can affect your rates, but if your insurer finds out you could be forced to pay thousands of dollars. A new study by eCar shows that, of those who fibbed on their applications and have since had their policies revoked, 68% were woman and 32% were men.
Lying on car insurance applications is wrong, but lying about somethings carry more severe consequences than others. Lying about your car’s annual mileage could force your to pay more in insurance claims if you live in state where there are records of your vehicle’s odometer readings or smog tests.
If your insurance company finds out you didn’t add a driver to your insurance policy, they could charge you for back premiums or refuse to cover damages if the other driver was involved in a wreck. Not being honest about where you park your car, especially if it’s in a different zip code, could also result in you having to pay back premiums or not being covered for theft or damages.
If you are looking for affordable car insurance or want to learn more about insurance policies available for you, contact the Indianapolis auto insurance agents of Insure on the Spot at 1-888-972-SAVE.

More elderly drivers taking online courses
Posted on August 29th, 2011
More than 60,000 elderly drivers signed up for an online driver’s education course last year. AARP’s online driving course, along with American Automobile Association’s online senior driving class, has seen a steady enrollment increase in the past few years. Over the past three years, online courses have seen a 20% increase. The rise of enrollment is most likely because older drivers, about 65 to 70 years old, can see a 15% discount on their car insurance.
Critics, however, say that online driving courses may not help elderly drivers improve their driving skills. Since none of the lessons are actually done in a car, some experts believe that the program won’t significantly affect they way people drive. But advocates claim that the four to eight hour online classes helps keep older drivers up-to-date on new car technology and changes in traffic laws. In a survey, 97% of people who took AARP’s online class said they changed at least one thing about the way they drive.

Are Red Light Cameras Only for Revenue?
Posted on February 28th, 2011
Red light cameras have been around for several years now, but they are still causing controversy in many states. One of the main arguments against red light cameras is that their purpose is purely to gain revenue for a city by ticketing anyone who speeds or runs a red light. Officials have refuted this claim, saying that the only purpose of the cameras is to reduce reckless driving and collisions.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the cameras have done just that. The number of fatal crashes has greatly been reduced in many states. A new bill that is being considered would continue the use of red light cameras but standardize them. For instance, it would cap a speeding ticket fee at $50. This is much less than a normal speeding ticket given by an officer would cost.
Whether or not there is the threat of a ticket, driving safely and following driving laws should always be a number one priority. If a collision does occur, for any reason, it is always a good idea to have car insurance.
