Men more likely to crash on icy roads, says study
Posted on December 5th, 2011
A study conducted by a researcher at Purdue University reveals that men over the age of 45 are more likely to get into car accidents on icy or snowy roads.
The risks increase even more for men over 45 years-old who drive pickup trucks with all-wheel drive. The researcher believes men with all-wheel drive have a sense of invulnerability, which could lead them to not stop as quickly as they should. All-wheel drive helps the vehicle accelerate, but not necessarily slow down faster.
Men older than 45 years-old are five and half times more likely to be hurt or killed in car accidents in snowy or icy weather. Older men in pickup trucks are 81% more likely to be involved in an accident compared to men of the same age driving a different vehicle.
It is important to have car insurance in order to protect yourself in case of an accident. If you are looking for affordable car insurance contact the Indianapolis auto insurance agents of Insure on the Spot at 1-888-972-SAVE.

A three car crash on Interstate 65 left two people in critical condition and shut down the road for nearly four hours.
A 25 year-old man driving a van was merging into the southbound lane when another vehicle struck his driver-side door. According to Indiana State Police, the vehicle then crashed and spun into the northbound lanes where it hit a semitrailer.
The driver of the van and the 29 year-old driver of the semitrailer were not harmed. Both passengers, a man and a woman, in the other vehicle were taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital with life threatening injuries.
The crash is currently under investigation by the Indiana State Police.

Common car insurance myths debunked
Posted on November 2nd, 2011
Car insurance companies make a lot of tantalizing claims in ads and commercials, but are they really as good as they make them out to be? Some are misleading or come with very important fine print drivers may not be aware of.
Thanks to InsuranceHotline.com, here are some common car insurance myths that have been debunked:
- Accident Forgiveness = No Consequences
Accident Forgiveness comes with some fine print. If you have been in an accident in which serious criminal charges have been filed, such as drunk driving, some policies may not apply accident forgiveness. You also will not automatically be covered by accident forgiveness just because your insurance company offers it. Adding this policy could cost an additional $50-$100 a year. Every company can add its own limitations to the policy, as well.
- Bicyclists Don’t Have to Follow Laws of the Road
Cyclists must obey all laws of the road, just as cars do. The Highway Traffic Act applies to all traffic, and a violation on a bike could appear on your driving record. Violations such as illegal lane changes, failing to signal when turning or changing lanes, and failing to obey traffic lights and signs are some examples of moving violations cyclists can receive.
- No Police Report = No Claim
Just because police were not called to the scene of an accident does not mean a claim cannot be filed. Anyone involved in the accident has two years to file an injury claim and one year to file a damage claim. Only after two years have passed is the risk of a claim eliminated.
To make sure you’re getting the best insurance policy for you, be sure to shop around for the best auto insurance company that can accomodate your needs. Make your search quick and easy by contacting the Indianapolis car insurance agents of Insure on the Spot at 1-888-972-SAVE today.
Policies you may not need
Posted on October 25th, 2011
There are many options when it comes to auto insurance, but some may not be necessary or worth the price depending on the year and quality of your vehicle. Here are three policies that you may want to reconsider purchasing:
- Rental Car Damage Insurance: If you already pay for comprehensive car insurance, then you are already covered when renting a vehicle and there is no need to pay for it again at the checkout counter. If you are not covered by a comprehensive policy, some rental companies will issue insurance for a small fee. This fee is cheaper than an entire year’s worth of auto insurance that includes rental cars.
- Auto Collision Insurance: If your vehicle is already paid off, auto collision insurance is not required. If you’re driving an older car, this extra expense may not be necessary because the vehicle may not be worth the repairs.
- Rental Car Insurance: This policy covers drivers who have been in an accident and need a rental car while their vehicle is getting repairs. Some experts believe, however, that most people rarely rent cars and that the cost of renting out of pocket for a short period of time saves more money than a lifetime of rental car insurance.
Of course, you should speak to an experienced car insurance agent before cancelling or adding any auto insurance policy. The Indianapolis auto insurance agents of Insure on the Spot can make your car insurance search quick and easy. Contact them by calling 1-888-972-SAVE.

Great ways to spend less on car insurance
Posted on July 12th, 2011
Drivers are always looking for the best deals on car insurance, and there are at least four great ways to ensure that you are spending less on your car insurance.
- The first tip is to make sure that your car has proper safety measures such as an alarm, anti-lock brakes, and airbags. This will show insurance companies that you have a lower probability of filing a claim.
- The second tip is to drive safely. A person’s driving record is usually the number one factor in determining his or her insurance policy rate.
- The third tip is to take out a higher deductible on your policy. This would mean that, in the event of an accident, you would be sharing more of the cost with the insurance company, however, it will also keep your insurance policy rate low.
- The fourth and final tip is to buy an insurance policy online. Online insurance companies generally offer lower insurance premiums than offline companies because they often have lower commission and distribution charges.
